Dr. Rodríguez Vargas is the Head of School of Brownell-Talbot College Preparatory School, the only private independent school in the greater Omaha region. The school emphasizes college prep for children at all grades from pre-school through grade twelve.
In 2008 Brownell-Talbot was the recipient of a $2 million scholarship endowment from the Malone Family Foundationin Englewood, Colorado. The School received this grant because of its high academic caliber, quality administration and staff, and accommodation for students with exceptional ability. Brownell-Talbot is among a prestigious group of 32 Malone partner schools across the country uniquely positioned to provide scholarships to students in grades 7-12 who demonstrate outstanding abilities as well as financial need.
Rodríguez Vargas began her teaching career at The Ohio State University and has been in the education field since 1992. She has served as the Associate Head of School and Dean of Academics at Saint Mary’s School in North Carolina.
Prior to Saint Mary’s, she was Middle School Director at the Columbus School for Girls in Columbus, Ohio. Sylvia’s career also includes teaching and serving as World Language Department Chair at the Berkeley Carroll School in New York along with teaching at local New York City Universities. Ms. Rodríguez Vargas’ professional development includes a Klingenstein Fellowship at Teachers College, Columbia University, and leadership training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education – The Art of Leadership.
